Although the majority of weddings tend to occur in the warmer months, winter is still one of our favourite times of the year. It provides us with an incredibly beautiful source of light. Its muted and alluring colours create a visual wonderland for any photographer who prefers the use of natural daylight to hone their craft. We photographed Daniella and Adrian’s wedding during last year’s winter in the south-western suburbs of Melbourne. The chill from the frigid weather brought on a multitude of colourful coats and long scarves outside of St Mary’s church in Williamstown. The couple were incredibly warm and giving, their emotion and happiness as they celebrated amongst family and friends was almost tangible within the atmosphere of the day. For the evening’s celebrations the couple and their guests headed to the magnificent Substation. The visually compelling early twentieth century building has been renovated for use as a multi arts centre space. Its high ceilings and exposed brick walls provide an elegant and relaxed backdrop. The delicate winter light streaming through the windows gave the portrait session a quiet and intimate feel. As a visual artist and owner of For Me By Dee, Daniella designed an impressive array of DIY details including the menus, seating plan, place cards and thank you tags. Family traditions dating back generations, like wrapping the bride and groom in streamers during their first dance, added an element of unique style and glamour. The traditional wedding cake was replaced with a five-tier cheese wheel tower, placed at the front of the large room. The night continued on with emotional speeches setting off a room full of tears and laughter. By the end, no one held back as the dance floor erupted to the music of the famous six-piece Baker Boys Band. For the closing finale, Daniella and Adrian left to a downpour of confetti as John Paul Young’s “Love is in the Air” echoed through the room. So as their first anniversary approaches, we’d like to share with you this beautiful day with two wonderful individuals. This is their story. // Words and photos by Jakub and Zosia. // Daniella and Adrian’s wedding is also featured on Polka Dot Bride. // Credits // Bride’s dress: Jane Hill // Groom’s suit: Oscar Hunt // Bride’s makeup: Cosmetique Makeup // Videographer: Purple Ribbon Weddings // Transport: Classic & Prestige Car Hire // Ceremony: St Mary’s Catholic Church // Reception: The Substation // Reception musicians: Baker Boys Band // Catering: Fred & Ginger Catering // Cheese wheel tower: Bill’s Farm
